As of February 22, 2010, a new federal law allows people who can legally possess firearms under applicable federal and Alaska state law, to legally possess firearms within Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park.
Under federal law the use or discharge of a firearm is still prohibited within the national park, except where Alaska state firearms and hunting laws apply on state owned lands. It is the responsibility of visitors to understand and comply with all applicable Alaska state and federal firearms laws before entering this park.
Federal law also prohibits firearms in certain facilities in this park; those places are marked with signs at all public entrances. Please be aware that Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park does have has a wide variety of federal facilities and restored buildings that the park maintains and operates.
Additionally, please note that Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park is an International Park. The Chilkoot Trail crosses an international boundary with Canada. Firearms are prohibited on the Canadian side of the Chilkoot Trail. Hikers are responsible for complying with all Canadian Customs and Firearms Laws.
