Gold Fever: Race to the Klondike combines historical reenactments, archival photographs, and scenic footage of Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park to bring this dramatic story to life. This film captures the stampeders' journey through the unforgiving Yukon terrain and their struggles in the new boom towns of Dyea, Skagway and Dawson.

 

Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park commemorates the struggles and accomplishments of all who participated in the Klondike Gold Rush. Whether you are a history lover or want to see more of Alaska's outstanding scenery, the park has something for you. Here are some ideas to consider for your time in here:

If you have half a day, begin your tour at the National Park Visitor Center located in the restored 1898 rail depot at 2nd & Broadway.

  • See the free park film, "Gold Fever: Race to the Klondike," in person in our theater (24 minutes).
  • Attend a ranger chat. Offered daily. Topics vary. Ask for more information at the visitor center. We no longer offer any ranger-led walking tours.
  • Self-guided Walking Tour of Park Buildings in the Skagway Historic District. This .64-mile tour will explore some of the historic gold rush-era buildings throughout Skagway. Download the NPS App. The free app is currently available for iOS and Android devices.
  • Visit the park museum adjacent to the visitor center and stroll through the restored historic Mascot Saloon.
  • Meet at the Jeff. Smiths Parlor Museum on 2nd Avenue and Broadway for a 1 pm daily tour. This tour is limited to 14 peopel and does require TICKETS. Tickets are free. Please go to the Visitor Center to pick up your timed-entry ticket.
  • Head to our Visitor Center for your National Parks Passport Stamp.
 

If you plan to spend an entire day, there will be time to add in a hike in Skagway or drive to Dyea

 

With multiple days in Skagway, your options increase.


Note: Passports are required when driving to and from Skagway on the South Klondike Highway and when hiking the Chilkoot Trail.
