Tips on Submitting an Application in USAJobs

  • Carefully review the job announcement/description before starting the application
  • Note what types of documentation is required. This will include but may not be limited to:
    • A legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, and grade-point average or class ranking must be provided. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
    • A federal resume with name, contact information, work and volunteer experience, education information, etc. (See "FederaL Resume Tips" Section below)

Federal Resume Tips

  • Federal resumes do not need to be limited to one page. It is more important to list all relevant job, work, and volunteer experience than to fit everything on one page.
  • Keep resume organized, simple, and easy to read
  • For each position and work/volunteer experience listed, include start/end dates and hours worked per week (e.g. "40 hours/week", NOT "full-time")
  • In preparing your application, describe in detail the experience and training which you have had that specifically prepared you for this job and to perform the duties described for this job. Experience should be clearly described and documented in your resume. The qualifications reviewer will not assume performance of such duties by Job Titles alone. Address your knowledge, skills and/or abilities in the areas shown in the job-related factors
