Driving to and around Springfield:

Lincoln Home National Historic Site is located in downtown Springfield. Interstate Highway 1-55 and Interstate Highway I-72 can both be used to drive into the heart of Springfield.

Around downtown, drivers should be mindful that there are several railroad crossings and one-way streets. 7th Street, the street in which cars will be driving down in order to reach our parking lot, is a one-way street.

Parking around Lincoln Home National Historic Site:

On-street parking is available throughout downtown Springfield, as well as several parking garages scattered in the downtown area. On-street parking in downtown Springfield is free on weekends. Parking in the Lincoln Home National Historic Site Visitor Center Parking Lot requires a $2 per hour per vehicle fee, which can be paid at the gate arm kiosk when leaving the parking lot. We ask that visitors please use debit and credit card payment for parking and payment of passes. We do not accept cash.

The Lincoln Home Bus/RV Parking Lot is located north of the Lincoln Home Visitor Center.

Mass Transit to and from Springfield:

Amtrak and Greyhound Bus lines both travel to and from Springfield. The Amtrak train station is within walking distance from Lincoln Home National Historic Site, about 7 blocks away. Passengers can ride the Amtrak train from Springfield to St. Louis or Chicago. The Greyhound bus station is not within walking distance of our site.

Public Transit in Springfield:

Public transit through the Sangamon Mass Transit District is available, with buses running generally every half-hour. Please go to the Sangamon Mass Transit District website, to find more information.

Getting to Other Sites of Interest from Lincoln Home National Historic Site:

Many other historic sites and tourist attractions in Springfield are within walking distance of our site. Sites such as the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum, Old State Capitol, Lincoln Depot, Elijah Illes House, Dana-Thomas House, Illinois State Museum, New State Capitol, and Grand Army of the Republic Memorial Museum are all within 10 blocks of the Lincoln Home.

Sites such as the Lincoln Tomb, New Salem State Historic Site, Springfield and Central Illinois African American History Museum, and State Military Museum are located further away and visitors are recommended to drive to these sites from Lincoln Home National Historic Site.

Accomodations and Camping

Lincoln Home National Historic Site has no overnight accomodations, on-site dining, or campgrounds. However, there are a number of resturants and places to stay in downtown Springfield, with several restaurants within walking distance of the site.
