Weather at Lincoln Home National Historic Site can be very different depending on the day and season, with temperatures at our site can range from 0°F (-18°C) in the winter to 95°F (35°C) or warmer in the summer. To get to the Lincoln Home and exhibits and displays around our site, visitors will have to go outside. Please dress appropriate for potential weather conditions. SpringEarly spring is often still very cool or even cold in Springfield. Sometimes we still may experience the occasional snowfall in early-mid spring. Weather can fluctuate from warm and pleasant to cool or colder temperatures. As the weather gets warmer, rainstorms and thunderstorms become more frequent. SummerSummers in Springfield are warm and very humid. High temperatures average around 83-85°F (28-29°C) but can rise to the 90s°F (32+ °C). Visitors should expect the potential for intense sun and clear skies as well as the possibility for rainstorms and thunderstorms. Although there are shaded sites and trees on site, we recommend visitors wear sunscreen and drink plenty of water, especially during warm, sunny days. Autumn/FallEarly autumn is generally still warm with pleasant weather, with occasional rainstorms. Towards the end of autumn, weather starts to get cooler. We may experience the occasional snow towards the latter half of autumn. WinterWinters can get quite cold in Springfield with average high temperatures in the winter around mid-30s°F (1-4°C). However, with windchill or other weather conditions, it can also get much colder. We typically experience multiple snowfalls throughout the winter. Drivers should exercise caution and be mindful of potentially icy roads and other poor weather and driving conditions. Extreme Weather EventsSpringfield is located in a region of the United States that does experience occasional tornadoes. During extreme weather events, the Visitor Center can act as a tornado and weather shelter.
