Thomas Jefferson resided here while drafting the Declaration of Independence. Demolished in 1883, the house was reconstructed by the National Park Service in 1975.

Thomas Jefferson and his enslaved servant Robert Hemmings slept, worked, and shopped in Philadelphia in the summer of 1776 while Jefferson was attending the meetings of the Second Continental Congress.
