Buildings Most park buildings are accessible including:
Restrooms Accessible restrooms are available in the Independence Visitor Center, the Benjamin Franklin Museum (fee applies), and the Portrait Gallery in the Second Bank (closed for the season). There are also accessible restrooms at the Germantown White House (Deshler-Morris House) located in Germantown (currently closed). Wheelchairs Some wheelchairs are available for borrowing at the Independence Visitor Center for use while in the park. Visitors must present a form of ID which will be held until the wheelchair is returned. All wheelchairs may be borrowed for the day only, and must be returned by 4:15 p.m. Curb cuts Paved sidewalks with curb cuts are available along the perimeter of all blocks in the park. Newly landscaped walks on Independence Mall provide clear access in the middle of the three blocks between Independence Hall and the National Constitution Center. Exhibits and Tours There are wayside exhibits throughout the park which can be reached by people using wheelchairs. Photo albums of public rooms above the ground floor are available for Independence Hall, Congress Hall, and other buildings. All ranger-led outdoor tours are on paved walks and use curb cuts. Most cover only 3-4 blocks and are suitable for people of all abilities. |
