    The Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area (AFNHA) works to conserve, enhance, interpret, and promote a regional network of forest heritage resources in the central Appalachian Highlands. Designated a National Heritage Area in 2019, AFNHA covers sixteen counties in West Virginia and two counties in western Maryland.

    The Champlain Valley National Heritage Partnership includes the interconnected waterways of Lake Champlain, Lake George, the Champlain Canal and portions of the Upper Hudson River in Vermont and New York. The region is the ancestral homeland of Algonquin and Iroquois peoples and, over the past 400 years, has played a vital role in the history of the United States and Canada.

    The Illinois and Michigan Canal National Heritage Area heralded a new era of trade and travel for the nation during the mid-1800s through the early 1900s. It was the economic engine that poised Illinois to become the most populous inland American state by opening trade in the region and in America’s heartland.
