Student Conservation Association (SCA)

The Student Conservation Association (SCA) offers students exciting and challenging opportunities to work in national parks, monuments, forests, wildlife refuges, and other wildlands managed by non-profit conservation organizations. Oregon Caves National Monument provides internships through SCA in environmental education and resource management.

SCA interns at Oregon Caves live in dormitory-style housing and receive a stipend to help support their work and living expenses. These internships provide invaluable hands-on experience in conservation efforts, while also contributing to the protection and preservation of national monuments like Oregon Caves.

For more details about SCA stipends and the application process, visit www.thesca.org.

Geoscientists-in-the-Parks (GIP)

The Geoscientists-in-the-Parks (GIP) program is a partnership with the Geological Society of America (GSA) and the Stewards Individual Placement Program. The GSA is responsible for advertising the program, recruiting candidates, and managing the online application process. Once selected, Stewards administers payments, benefits, and serves as the main point of contact for participants throughout the program.

GIP participants are AmeriCorps members, and AmeriCorps limits individuals to four terms of service. If an applicant has already completed four GIP or other AmeriCorps positions, they are not eligible for an additional GIP term.

This internship offers hands-on experience in interpretation and resource management during the park's operating seasons (Spring, Summer, and Fall). Interns typically take on a major project, such as studying geology, hydrology, or soil at the Monument, while also participating in interpretive programs and environmental monitoring. The ideal candidate is passionate about geology, eager to expand their knowledge of natural resources, and enjoys interacting with the public.

For more information on the program and application details, visit the Geological Society of America at GSA's GIP Program and the Stewards Program at stewardslegacy.org.
