The park is three miles southeast of the Baltimore Inner Harbor and just off I-95. Follow the brown Fort McHenry directional signs along all major routes to the park. From I-95 northbound, take Exit 55 Key Highway and follow Fort McHenry signs. Temperatures and weather in the spring and fall months tend to be mild. Ice, snow, and freezing temperatures can occur during winter. Extreme heat can occur during the summer months. Inclement weather may impact park hours of operation year round. Refer to the park alerts or call ahead to confirm operating hours. Purchase Entry Passes Ahead of TimeThe admission fee for the park’s Historic Star Fort ($15) will apply to adults, ages 16 and up, for entrance to the historic Star Fort. Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine Visitor CenterThe Fort McHenry Visitor Center is open daily from 9:00 am - 4:45 pm. Inside the visitor center is an introductory museum, a movie (plays every 30 minutes), the park bookstore, restrooms, and water bottle filling station. The visitor center and museum are free to visit. Visitors interested in purchasing entrance passes to the Star Fort Historic Zone or an America the Beautiful pass can do so here. Download the new NPS App, the official app for all 420+ NPS sites. The NPS App will act as your virtual visitor center! You can see the movie that is usually shown in the visitor center on our multimedia page on our website which is a good way to become familiar with the park’s history. Virtual tours, self-guided tours, other videos, and photo galleries are also found on the same page on our website. Entrance Fees to Historic Zone and Star FortFor entrance to the historic fort, an entrance fee of $15 applies to visitors ages 16 years and up. Daily entrance tickets are good for 7 days and can be purchased prior to visiting online at recreation .gov or in the park visitor center. Onsite registers are open from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Other federal passes such as the Senior Pass, Annual Pass, and the Access Pass will be accepted. America the Beautiful passes can be purchased onsite or ordered online at the USGS Store. Your fee dollars allow the parks to complete important historic restoration projects that preserve our nation’s treasures. More information can be found on our Fees & Passes page. Self-Guided and Virtual ToursThe fort is self-guided. There are several virtual and self-guided tour options that allow visitors to view all exhibit areas and have a guided experience via smart device.
