Due to weather related incidents, Vicksburg National Cemetery is closed to vehicular traffic, however it is open to pedestrians. Visitor can park in the adjacent USS Cairo parking lot and walk into the cemetery.
Iron tablet located on Confederate Avenue at the Stockade Redan (Tour Stop #10). At the Battle of Arkansas Post, this unit was attached to Col. John W. Dunnington’s 3d Brigade of Brig. Gen. Thomas J. Churchill’s Post of Arkansas, and commanded by Col. C.L. Dawson. During the raids (15 April 1863 - 8 May 1863), the regiment was assigned to Col. Thomas P. Dockery’s Combat Team, of Maj. Gen. Carter L. Stevenson’s 2d Military District, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton’s Department of Mississippi and East Louisiana, and commanded by Col. Dockery. Later the regiment was assigned to Brig. Gen. Martin E. Green’s (killed 27 June 1863) and Col. Thomas P. Dockery’s 2d Brigade, of Maj. Gen. John S. Bowen’s Division, Lt. Gen. John C. Pemberton’s Army of Vicksburg, and commanded by Col. Thomas P.
