Places

Aside from the major features along the park tour road, there are several places within Vicksburg National Military Park with their own unique stories worth exploring.
  • Pemberton's Headquarters: The building where Confederate General John Pemberton coordinated the defense of Vicksburg.
  • Vicksburg National Cemetery: The final resting place for over 17,000 veterans from multiple wars.
  • Soldiers' Rest Cemetery: Located near the park in the city of Vicksburg, Soldiers' Rest Cemetery is the final resting place for 5,000 Confederate soldiers.
  • Heritage Garden: A demonstration garden located near the Surrender Site, this garden allows visitors to explore a working Civil War-era garden.
