Lowell is a city of artists – it is alive with innovative energy and hundreds of creators! Lowell National Historical Park is excited to continue to explore the connection between the city’s many communities and artistic expression. Attend one of these programs to grow your creative skills in different mediums. Or work with us to share your own connections to Lowell and art by leading your own workshop.
Park Pop-Ups
Our new Park Pop-Up program is meeting you around the city of Lowell to provide free kids art activities. Families can join Lowell National Historical Park and the Pollard Memorial Library’s Bookmobile for hours of crafts and literature. You can find these pop-ups in some of the many parks found around Lowell, so be sure to check our calendar below to find the next date and location near you! Each week features a different hands-on craft or art style to explore as well as the chance to get a library card and check out a new book. Continue to check back for new dates and locations as they are added.

Connect, Create, Discover Workshops
Connect, Create, Discover workshopsare an exciting part of our Art in the Park programs. They highlight the stories and artistry of the many communities that make up Lowell and shine a light on the many creators and culture bearers that make this city their home. The workshops allow participants the chance to experience and try different types of art that they may have never been exposed to before.
These free, two-hour long workshops are facilitated by local artists who will share their artistic expertise along with their stories and connection to Lowell. Hosted throughout the year, these workshops will be held in various locations around the park. Each workshop will feature different artists and mediums with all the supplies provided to participants.
Please note the age guidance for each workshop -some workshops are more well-suited to younger artists and family groups than others. These programs are free, but space is limited, and reservations are required. Please call 978-970-5000 to reserve a spot.
Are you a creator interested in sharing your artistic medium, your story, and your Lowell connection? Check out below to learn about the program requirements and find out how to apply!
Are You a Creator?
Are you an artist or do you know a Lowell artist who is looking to share their skills? Lowell National Historical Park is in search of Lowell creators to help present our artistic Connect, Create, Discover workshops. Share your story, show off your artistry and craft, and teach others while giving them a chance to try something new.
Previously known as the ‘Art in the Park’ program, we are expanding this to be a collaborative workshop that highlights how different artforms and cultures can be combined in new and exciting ways. This could be different styles of dance, combining the “weaving” techniques of beading and loom weaving, or exploring how both watercolor and needle felting have different ways of blending colors together. These workshops can be collaborative with other artists or with a single instructor and will dive into the connection of art and culture.
Lowell National Historical Park is currently taking applications until November 15th to be a workshop presenter in spring and summer 2025. A stipend will be given to instructors for presenting a workshop. Work with park staff to host a creative workshop that explores culture, community, and creativity in Lowell. Workshops are expected to last 2-hours and will be hosted in Boarding House Park (40 French Street) with other locations available. They will be scheduled on weekends throughout the year.
The program is broadly inclusive of all people with a special focus on new and underrepresented voices. Lowell NHP places a high value on diversity of experience and cultural perspectives and encourages applications from all interested eligible candidates. Diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) are fundamental principles that guide the Park and allow us to successfully achieve our mission. Look below with how to apply.
Please feel free to reach out before you apply! If you have any questions or would like more information, just e-mail us!
