Safety

Summer Weather

During the summers temperatures at Tule Lake can be in the 90º Fahrenheit range, creating a hot dry climate with limited shade. We recommend bring and drinking plenty of water, ware sunscreen, and bringing a sun hat or umbrella to tours, as you are exposed to the elements during most of the tour.

Winter Weather

Winter can range from 50ºF days, to days that never get out of the teens. Please come prepared with layers of clothing. The area has reported snow and/or rain in almost every month of the year, making a warm, water proof layer a good idea. Road conditions can also vary during the winter. Please check CalTrans and ODOT pages for road information.

Walking

Most locations you go to during the tour at Tule Lake are fairly flat and easy to explore on foot, but there are some physical hazards. The dirt can be soft and there are numerous tripping hazards such as rodent holes, old wire and old boards. Please wear appropriate footwear (closed-toe shoes) when exploring the site.
