The National Park Service (NPS) works with federal agencies, state and local governments, organizations, tribes, and private individuals to administer the Santa Fe National Historic Trail. Partners provide opportunities for visitors to experience the trail, to discover its story and significance, and they protect and preserve trail resources. Current and Future PartnersTrail AssociationThe Santa Fe Trail Association is the NPS's primary nonfederal partner for the Trail. The association is a national organization dedicated to preserving resources, and fostering public awareness and appreciation of the Santa Fe National Historic Trail. In 2003, the Santa Fe Trail Association and the NPS developed a Strategic Plan to guide their partnership work on the Trail. National Scenic BywayThe historic trail is also designated as Santa Fe Trail National Scenic Byway, a program administered by the U.S. Federal Highway Administration.
