Check with Individual Sites about Accessibility

National Park Service areas along the Santa Fe National Historic Trail, including Fort Larned National Historic Site, Bent's Old Fort National Historic Site, Fort Union National Memorial, and Pecos National Historical Park, generally meet accessibility standards for people with disabilities.

However, because of the varied nature, rural character, and mixed public and private ownership of the many sites making up the Santa Fe National Historic Trail, it is best that you inquire locally about accessibility at each location.

Fort Larned (initially called Camp Larned) was established in 1859 to protect Santa Fe Trail travelers from Indian raids. It continued that function until 1867, when the bulk of long-distance traffic was rerouted to the north.
