Program Overview

Schedule a field trip at Darrah Hall to learn about education and land ownership in the sea islands while participating in an activity. The activity will involve students working together in order to map out a parcel of land using geometry and other mathematical skills to figure out the ‘price’ of land.

Curriculum Standards

  • The Landownership in the Lowcountry field trip at Darrah Hall will reinforce the following topics with your students:
  • Analyze continuities and change in the African American experience in the period of Reconstruction era within South Carolina
  • Contextualize the economic, labor, political and social conditions in South Carolina during the period of Reconstruction
  • Differentiate among perimeter and area and identify which application is appropriate for a given situation
