Cherokee County was the recent recipient of a Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP) grant that will provide significant funding to plan and design approximately 26 miles of trail associated with the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail (OVVI) corridor and Carolina Thread Trail (CTT). The Federal Lands Access Program was created to improve state and local transportation facilities that provide access to and through federal lands.

National Park Service (NPS) acting Regional Director Pedro Ramos announced the selection of Joshua Manley as the new superintendent for Ninety Six National Historic Site located in Ninety Six, South Carolina. He will begin his assignment on Oct. 24.

Today, National Park Service (NPS) South Atlantic-Gulf Regional Director Stan Austin announced the selection of Diana Bramble as the new superintendent of South Carolina’s Cowpens National Battlefield and Kings Mountain National Military Park.

Beginning September 16, 2020, Southern Campaign of the American Revolution Parks will reopen access to:
•Outdoor visitor services area with staff will be open 10:00 am – 3:00 pm Wednesday – Friday
•Traffic flow of visitors will be controlled. One-way entry/exit.
•Interpretive programming will resume with the use of voice amplification, limited to no more than 10 people, maintaining social distancing.
•Limited America’s National Parks™ store sales will resume in outdoor area.
