The call to fight traveled far and wide, including to Surry County, NC. On September 26, 1780 Joseph Winston mustered 150 men on the flats along Big Elkin Creek. They encamped there for the night and set out on the 27th following the Yadkin River to join their fellow Patriots at Quaker Meadows.
There is an overlook of the muster field and encampment site at this point where the Commemorative Motor Route begins, and features NPS interpretive waysides. 2 miles of certified OVNHT wind through Elkin Municipal Park and through private property easements. Please obey and honor all private property signs and rights.
