September 30, 1780. With the Patriot forces split, the southern group under William Campbell descended this Black Bear Creek to the Catawba River and the reunion with the northern group. This is a 2.3 mile trail through game land managed by the North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission. It is a natural surface trail, and be cautious as this is active game land. Parking is available at Lake James Road near where it meets Manna Drive or a small portion of the trail can be driven to another hunter vehicle access parking area. There are no facilities or amenities available at this location. |
