Certified Hiking Trails
Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail consists of a network of disconnected hiking trails across our corridor. These trails are located roughly along, or within 1/2 mile, of what has been identified as the probable route used by the patriots in 1780 on their journey to the Battle of Kings Mountain.
Each trail section is owned and managed by the property owner, therefore conditions and rules vary based on owner policies. For more information about each trail section, explore the links or contact the land management partner directly
Commemorative Motor Route
A great feature of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail is the 330-mile Commemorative Motor Route, or "CMR."This route uses regular roads to shadow the path used by the Overmountain Men on their journey to the Battle of Kings Mountain.
These roads are marked with the convex triangle logo of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail and can be seen on the park maps.
If you are aware of locations where a CMR sign is missing, please report it to park staff at ovvi_information@nps.gov.
Camping
Each section of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail is managed by its own landowner and therefore there are few policies that apply to every section of the trail. Per various landowner policies, camping is not allowed along most of the Overmountain Victory NHT.
Other parts of the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail pass through areas that allow primitive camping or are near parks with campgrounds. Some of these include:
