On Sunday, September 22 at 2 p.m. Homestead National Monument of America artist-in-residence Nancy Lehenbauer Marshall will present her program “Discovering Place through Painting” in the Homestead National Monument of America Education Center. During her presentation, Nancy will show some of the many painting she has created over her forty year career and discuss how creating art allows us to feel empathy for place and for others.Nancy will be in residence at Homestead National Monument of America from September 12 through September 25. During her stay at the monument, Nancy will work on her art out on the grounds of the monument and in the buildings. Visitors are welcome to come and watch her work and visit with her.
Nancy comes to the monument from Lawrence, Kansas where she works as an independent artist. Her paintings are in private collections throughout the world as well as at The University of Kansas, Spencer Museum of Art, Washburn University, Mulvane Art Museum, and the Flint Hills Discovery Center.
“We are excited to have Nancy with us as an Artist-in-Residence,” stated Superintendent Mark Engler, “Her unique perspective as an artist will make for wonderful connections and new outlooks for monument visitors who interact with her.”

Homestead National Monument of America is a unit of the National Park Service located four miles west of Beatrice, Nebraska and 45 miles south of Lincoln. Current hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Admission is free of charge.
