Homestead National Historical Park was created in 1936. The purpose of the park was to be a "memorial emblematical of the hardships and the pioneer life through which the early settlers passed in the settlement, cultivation and civilization of the Great West." Through exhibits, special events, and interpretive programs, Homestead National Historical Park addresses the scope and the legacy of the Homestead Act of 1862 across the nation from 1863 until today.
