![]() NPS Photo About the ParkHarriet Tubman National Historical Park is located in Auburn, New York. The park includes privately owned property, as well as property owned by the National Park Service. The National Park Service owns and operates the historic Thompson Memorial African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church at 49 Parker Street. Harriet Tubman was a congregant there near the end of her life. She helped raise funds to build the church, and her funeral was held there in 1913. Both the church and the adjacent parsonage building will open to the public on June 22, 2024 following substantial restoration. The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church owns and operates the Harriet Tubman Visitor Center, the Tubman Home for the Aged, and the Harriet Tubman Residence on a roughly 32 acre campus on South Street. Also included as part of the park deisgnation, these three sites are independently managed by The Harriet Tubman Home, Inc. A related Tubman site that lies outside of the park boundary is the Fort Hill Cemetery where Tubman is buried. The legislative boundary of the park also includes properties at 180 South Street which are operated by the Harriet Tubman Home, Inc. Auburn, New York has four distinct seasons. Fall and spring are usually mild and summers tend to be sunny, warm, and humid. Winter weather is variable and conditions can change quickly. Today, it serves as the main visitor contact station for Harriet Tubman National Historical Park. New York State Equal Rights Heritage CenterWhen the Thompson Memorial A.M.E. Zion Church and parsonage are closed, our partners at the New York State Equal Rights Heritage Center may provide many of the functions of a visitor center. Public WiFi is available.
