Surrounding these buildings are the remnants of Hampton’s fields and pastures that once 25,000 acres of Baltimore County. In this this area of Hampton National Historic Site, visitors can explore the lives of enslaved African Americans, indentured servants, and paid labors. The elegantly furnished mansion was set amid formal gardens and carefully landscaped grounds, making it an island of tranquility for the Ridgely family surrounded by a sea of suffering of those forced to labor for them.
