The National Park Service strives to make all parks as universally accessible as possible for everyone to enjoy. At Hampton National Historic Site, limited accessibility is available by a variety of means including ramps, paved paths, and open captioning. If a particular service is not listed below, please contact us.

Hampton National Historic Site is ADA accessible, though large portions of the site have limited or no accessibility due to the preservation of the historic structures and cultural landscape.

Service Animals

Service animals are permitted in all park buildings, including the mansion. For a definition of a service animal, please see the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) definition. Please note that pets whose sole function is to provide comfort or emotional support do not qualify as service animals under the ADA and are not permitted inside park buildings.

Please visit the pets section for more information about bringing non-service pets to the park

ASL Interpretation

American Sign Language interpretation is available by request. This service is free of charge. Please call 410-962-4290 (option 2) to make arrangements for an interpreter. Requests must be received no less than 14 days prior to your visit.

Parking

The main, upper, and farm parking lots are ADA accessible. Individuals who have state issued ADA parking tags or placards may park in the designated ADA parking spots. Spots are available in all three lots on a first come, first served basis. Parking at Hampton is free.

Visitor Center

The Visitor Contact Station is ADA accessible.

Historic Buildings

Mansion:

An access ramp is located on the back of the mansion to get visitors into the west hyphen of the building. Once inside, a lift is available to take visitors up the initial steps from the visitor hyphen into the first floor of the mansion. Due to weight restrictions on the wheel chair lift, individuals who use motorized chairs may be required to ride separately from their chair. The second floor of the mansion is not ADA accessible. A virtual tour of the first and second floor of the mansion is available at the Visitor Contact Station.

Lower Farm:

The Overseer’s House is ADA accessible via wheelchair lift. Please speak with a member of park staff to assist with operation. The Quarters of the Enslaved have slightly raised entryways which some motorized wheelchairs may be able to handle while others may not. Currently, the Dairy is not ADA accessible.

Restrooms

Public restrooms in the Visitor Contact Station, Orangery, and at the Lower Farm are ADA accessible but do not have automatic or open entrances. Public restrooms are not available in the mansion.

Park Grounds

The grounds at Hampton vary from paved, gravel, and marble paths. The majority of paths are not paved which could make operating a wheelchair challenging. Please use caution when traveling the grounds and be aware of uneven surfaces.

Access Passes

U.S. citizens or permanent residents with permanent disabilities may be eligible for the 'America the Beautiful' Access Pass. The Access Pass provides access to, and use of, Federal recreation sites that charge an Entrance or Standard Amenity fee. The pass is free of charge, valid for the lifetime of the passholder, and grants admission to the passholder and three additional adult guests. Please note that Hampton NHS is a free site and cannot issue 'America the Beautiful' passes. A complete list of parks that issue passes can be found here.
