Leadership at Pearl Harbor National Memorial

At the helm of the Pearl Harbor National Memorial is Superintendent Tom Leatherman, who oversees a diverse team dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of this historic site. Under his leadership, the memorial operates through several specialized divisions including Business Services & Administration, Interpretation & Education, History Services, Maintenance, Cultural & Natural Resources, and Visitor Resources Protection. Each division, led by a division chief, plays a crucial role in managing the site’s extensive operations, from educational programs and resource management to maintenance and visitor safety. Superintendent Leatherman's guidance ensures that the memorial not only honors the past but also educates and inspires future generations.

Tom Leatherman, superintendent of the Pearl Harbor National Memorial, oversees all site operations and activities. As the top official, he ensures the effective management of various divisions, including Business Services & Administration, Interpretation & Education, History Services, Maintenance, Cultural & Natural Resources, and Visitor Resources Protection. Divisional Overviews

Business Services and Administration

This division serves as the business office of the memorial, handling Commercial Use Authorizations (CUAs), Special Use Permits (SUPs), concessions, and real property management. Additionally, it manages human resources, procurement, property management, government vehicles, budget, accounting, travel, contracting, payroll, correspondence, official files, mail, and telecommunications.

Interpretation and Education Division

Responsible for providing information and education programs to visitors both on-site and online, this division manages publications, interpretive exhibits, the volunteer program, educational programs, and visitor center operations. It also handles media inquiries, special events, VIP visits, and community relations.

Maintenance Division

This division ensures the upkeep of all roads, buildings, utilities, grounds, and vehicles within the site, managing construction and rehabilitation projects to support the monument's operations and ensuring the safety of these facilities.

Integrated Resources Division

Offering scientific guidance on matters related to natural, cultural, and historical resources, this division conducts studies and oversees research activities. It maintains an extensive museum collection and provides access to documents, photographs, oral histories, and research materials, assisting in the development of interpretive talks and exhibits.

Visitor and Resources Protection Division

Dedicated to the security and safety of the park facilities and visitors, this division handles law enforcement, emergency medical services, search and rescue operations, and overall security of park facilities and buildings.
