    Glen Canyon National Recreation Area is pleased to announce an Alternative Anchoring Pilot Program is underway on Lake Powell. The pilot program currently includes one commercial use authorization permit holder, Beach Bags, that offers a new technology designed to provide a non-destructive houseboat anchoring system for use on sandstone outcroppings previously inaccessible using conventional anchoring methods. This non-destructive anchoring method can provide a viable alternative to the growing practice of illegally securing houseboats using rebar and other types of metal pins drilled into sandstone along the shoreline.

    Virgin Islands National Park invites the local communities of St. John and St. Thomas to a public meeting to be held at the new Resources Management and Science conference room the evening of November 13, at 5:45 PM local time. This meeting’s topic is a follow up of the July 10 meeting about the new online Commercial Use Authorization (CUA) application process issued by National Park Service entities. Virgin Islands National Park will be putting the new CUA policy into effect in January 2025.

    Applications for commercial use authorizations are accepted year-round, however a late fee may apply if they are received outside the open period which is from January 1 through February 28. This does not apply to one-time business operations or special event vendors.
