Train Rides

Regular Short Train Rides have concluded for the 2025 season. Short Train Rides will return in May, 2026 (though see below for the Holiday North Pole Limited trains)

Holiday Express Excursions to Moscow Station will be offered on November 28, 29 & 30, departing Steamtown at 11 a.m. and returning at 2 p.m. Tickets Available.

The Santa Train will stop at Steamtown National Historic Site on Saturday, December 6 at about 3 p.m. as part of Christmas in a Small Town sponsored by the Lackawanna Heritage Valley.

North Pole Limited - The Iron Horse Society is offering the popular holiday train rides at 10:15 a.m., 12:30 p.m., 2:15 p.m. and 4 p.m. on December 7, 13, 14, 20 & 21, and at 4 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. on Friday, December 19. Enjoy a festive 1-hour train ride behind a historic steam locomotive through Scranton Yards and Nay Aug Park as Santa visits every child while Mrs. Claus presents a small gift. The magic continues off the train with cookies & cocoa, model train displays, photo spots, and more! Advance tickets strongly recommended.

The Steamtown rail experience varies from short 30-minute trips exploring the park’s historic railroad yard to full-day trips through the Poconos. Short train rides are available Saturdays and Sundays in May, and Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays from June through October. Train rides are offered at 10:30 am, 11:30 am, 1:15 pm, and 2:30 pm. Longer train excursions occur in the fall and holiday-themed train rides are offered in November and December.
