Exception to Short Train Ride Schedules

Beginning May 4th, our short train rides will operate on Saturdays, and Sundays, as staffing permits. Beginning June 1st, our short train rides will operate Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays as staffing permits.

Cost: $6.00/person age 6+; kids 5 and under are $1.00

Departure times: 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:15pm, and 2:30pm

NOTE: all train rides are subject to cancellation due to mechanical issues, inclement weather, or crew availability.

2024 Train Operations

The Steamtown rail experience varies from short 30-minute trips exploring the park’s historic railroad yard to full-day trips through the Poconos or Lackawanna Valley.

Purchasing Tickets and Ticket Availability

Short Train Ride Tickets:
Throughout the regular operating season, a limited number of Short Train Ride tickets will be released on the 15th of each month, allowing visitors to purchase tickets in advance online at Recreation.gov. As an example, tickets for July short train rides will be released on June 15; tickets for August short train rides will be released on July 15, etc. Tickets may also be purchased on-site at the Information Kiosk, the day of your visit. All ticket sales will be credit card only.

Excursion Tickets:
Tickets for our Summer Excursions (May-Sep) are now available for purchase in advance online through recreation.gov. Additionally, excursion tickets may be purchased on-site at the Information Kiosk. All ticket sales will be credit card only.

  • Pricing Ranges:
    • Adult (ages 12-61): $25.00-$55.00;
    • Senior (ages 62+): $23.00-$50.00;
    • Youth (ages 3-11): $18.00-$33.00;
    • Child (ages 0-2): $1.00.

 

Short Train Rides

2024 Season:

• The "Scranton Limited" yard shuttle is scheduled to operate Saturdays and Sundays (May 4th-26th) and Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (June 1st-Nov 3rd), as staffing permits. Departure times are: 10:30am, 11:30am, 1:15pm, and 2:30pm.

• Tickets are $6.00 for adults and kids over the age of 5; kids 5 and under are $1.00. Tickets may be purchased on-site at the Information Kiosk, the day of your visit, or a limited number are available online in advance on Recreation.gov. Tickets are valid all day and for ANY departure time on the date of purchase.

• Seating availability is first come, first served; we recommend getting in line 15-20 minutes ahead of scheduled departure time.

Scranton Limited Yard Shuttle

A 3-mile round trip ride lasting approximately 30-minutes. The locomotive travels through the rail yards, crosses the Lackawanna River, passes the historic Radisson at Lackawanna Station hotel and stops at the University of Scranton before returning to the Steamtown boarding area.
