Park Rangers pledging to protect the park
Join us in protecting Muir Woods!

NPS/Neal Herbert

Take the pledge. Tell a friend.

To be a steward and help protect myself and the park, I pledge to:

  • Have a map, water, and a plan when hiking.
  • Stay on designated trails at all times - no matter how tempting the photo op might be.
  • Protect chipmunks by not feeding them, or any other wildife, and by only picnicing in designated eating areas.
  • Park in designated areas and avoid blocking traffic.
  • Recycle and compost what I can and put my garbage in raven-proof containers.
  • Report resource violations by calling 911 or talking to a ranger.
  • Not touch plants like poison oak and stinging nettle & not pick anything - like flowers, leaves, sticks, or slugs. (Picking up trash, on the other hand, is a-okay!)
  • Remember there is no reliable cell service in Muir Woods.
  • Never throw anything into the forest like apple cores, banana peels, trash, or ashes. Scattering cremated remains at Muir Woods National Monument is prohibited and will not be permitted under any circumstance.
