Welcome to Muir Woods National Monument! Muir Woods National Monument is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and is one of more than 400 national park units across the country. Plan on spending a few hours in the park, exploring the trails or particular points of interests. If time permits consider a longer hike, participate in a Junior Ranger program, recreate in Golden Gate, or consider attending a ranger-led program to learn more about these special places. Muir Woods National Monument 1 Muir Woods Rd Mill Valley, CA 94941 From San Francisco: Muir Woods is located 11 miles north of the Golden Gate Bridge. Take Hwy 101 North --> Mill Valley/Highway 1/ Stinson Beach Exit --> Follow the signs to Hwy 1 --> Follow the signs to Muir Woods From the East Bay: Take Hwy 580/Richmond/San Rafael Bridge West --> Hwy 101 South --> Take the Stinson Beach/Mill Valley Exit --> Follow the signs to Highway 1 --> Follow the signs to Muir Woods Vehicles over 35 feet long are prohibited. Vehicles over 17ft need an oversized parking spot. The coast redwood forest is cool most times of the year with temperatures ranging from 40 - 70 F/ 4 - 21 C. Always come prepared with layers. From late October to early May, expect cool weather & possible rain. Summer months (June-August) can be warmer, but it is generally cool and dry. Expect heavy fog in the morning, burning off in the afternoon. Often, the fall (September-October) is the warmest time of year. Muir Woods Visitor CenterVisitors are required to check-in at the Visitor Center upon arriving at Muir Woods. Purchase entrance tickets or use your annual pass here for entrance fees, as well as receive a free map of the main trail of the park. You can also purchase annual passes, a detailed trail map of the surrounding area, and a variety of books and souvenirs. WiFi is not available at this GGNRA park site. Do not plan on having cell service at Muir Woods National Monument. Understandably, this can make communicating challenging if your group gets separated or you need to contact a taxi/rideshare. Always have a plan before splitting up and come prepared with some change should you need to use our payphone to call a taxi (list of phone numbers provided on-site). |
