Whether you're seeking grounding and solitude or active engagement, our National Park Service rangers are here to enrich your visit. Linger at the informative wayside signs throughout the park to read about redwood ecology and cultural history. Listen to staff and volunteers delivering talks to connect you more profoundly to this special place. Or learn about this site through the Junior Ranger program (which has no age limit!) by completing our booklet to earn a junior ranger badge.
Regular Programs at Muir Woods in 2026
All year, rangers offer a daily Welcome to the Woods 15-minute program at 10:15 AM and 1:15 PM to inspire & connect you deeper to the forest. From May-September, we also will have a Welcome to the Woods program at 3:15 PM. These take place at Founders Grove, a 10-minute walk into the forest. This is a free program and all are welcome.
Every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, rangers host Into the Woods, a free 1-hour guided tour. This starts at 11:00 AM and takes visitors on a slow, 0.5-mile stroll on an accessible trail. To participate, meet the ranger at 11:00 AM at the Muir Woods Entry Archway having already parked and checked in - no registration, age limit, or group size cap.
The Muir Woods Night Tour takes place on the last Friday of every month from January through October. This is a popular program, so capacity is limited and registration, which opens at 8AM two weeks before the given program date, is required.
Check out our calendar below for more information about these programs and to learn about a variety of special offerings - including Owl Prowl Guided Hikes, fee-free days, art activities, and more - through the year. Please note that our scheduling is subject to last-minute changes; signage at the park entry will reflect daily offerings.
