Like many national park sites, Muir Woods National Monument collects entry fees, which are then reinvested in our park. Certain passes, described below, may be used instead of paying entry fees. These fees may be waived on certain days of the year or for educational visits. Parking reservations - required for all visitors - are separate from entry fees, but may be purchased at the same time on GoMuirWoods.com.

Entrance Fees

$15.00 - Adult (16 years of age and older)

Free - Children (15 years of age and under)

Families with fourth graders, Veterans and Gold Star Families, and people with permanent disabilities can visit for free. Follow the instructions in the link before you arrive at Muir Woods.

Entrance fees may be purchased in advance with your parking/shuttle reservation or upon arrival to the park. We accept cash or card payments. Parking/shuttle reservations are separate from entrance fees and required for all vehicles and shuttle riders visiting Muir Woods National Monument. Please visit GoMuirWoods.com for parking/shuttle reservations.

Academic Fee Waivers

Outings conducted for non-commercial educational purposes by schools and other bona fide academic institutions may be eligible for academic fee waivers to cover entrance fees. Academic fee waivers are not granted automatically. Educational groups must apply in advance of their outing and meet the following three criteria to receive a fee waiver.

  1. Eligibility: National or international applicants must prove they are a school or bona fide academic institution by submitting one of the following types of documentation:

    • A statement confirming educational or scientific tax exemption from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) or the applicant's national, state, or local tax authority; or

    • A statement, from a bona fide academic institution meeting one of these eligibility standards, confirming that the group is visiting for the purpose of providing transferable academic credit based on a curriculum; or

    • A statement of accreditation or recognition as an educational institution from a legitimate international, national, regional, state, or local authority for the applicant's location.

  2. Educational Purpose of Visit: Applicants must provide a written statement (documentation) verifying that the visit supports a specific curriculum for which academic credit is offered.

  3. Relevance of Park Resources or Facilities: Relevance to park resources must be described. Applicants must provide a written statement identifying the park resources and/or facilities that will be used to support the educational purpose of the visit, and how they are relevant to that purpose.

If you are interested in an academic fee waiver, please follow the steps outlined on our education programs page.
