NPS

Preserve the preserve from unintended wildfires. Summer heat and windy conditions make even the sparse desert vegetation susceptible to extreme fire conditions, as seen in the 2023 York and the 2020 Dome fires. Make sure that the Joshua tree woodland and other unique habitats are here for wildlife and future generations to enjoy.

Report any smoke, dry lightning strikes, or other fire sightings immediately to emergency services at 9-1-1

Due to extreme heat and dry windy conditions of summer 2024, the following restrictions are in effect:
  • No fireworks
  • No Charcoal grills.
  • No fires of any kind including campfires.
  • No smoking within 10 feet of vegetation.
  • Controlled flame devices such as portable stoves, lanterns and gas grills with shut off valves using gas, jellied petroleum or pressured fuel are allowed.
  • Fire restrictions are subject to change at anytime.
