Limited horseback riding is available within the boundaries of Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument.
Rules to know:
Horseback riders must pay the daily entrance fee at the visitor center or possess an annual pass. Pets are prohibited.
Riding on any trail or in developed areas is prohibited. Ride dispersed; do not create new trails.
Florissant Fossil Beds is only open to the public for day use. Park access is prohibited during closed hours except by permit.
Horseback riders must park their horse trailers at the designated pull located on Lower Twin Rock.
Riding Map
As indicated in the map, there are three areas (red overlays) where horses are prohibited. These areas are a roughly quarter-mile area around Hornbek Homestead; a half-mile by quarter-mile area around the visitor center; and a roughly quarter-mile area around the Barksdale Picnic Area.
The green rectangle in the map, located on Lower Twin Rock Road near its junction with Route 1, is where trailer parking is permitted. It is the only area for trailer parking.
As mentioned above, the numerous trails shown in the map are not open to horseback riding.
