At 8,400 feet and in the Montane life zone, Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument provides for a wide range of wildlife from eagles to Tiger salamanders and from mountain lions to beetles. The most visible animals for park visitors are birds such as the Chickadee and Stellar's Jay and also smaller mammals such as Wyoming ground squirrels, Abert's squirrels. and rabbits. Larger mammals such as mule deer, elk, and coyotes are seen on occassion, while mountain lions, bobcats and bears are rarely seen. Due to the park's climate and elevation, there are only a few reptiles. Elk/ Wapiti
