Building a Community of Park Stewards
Make a difference by joining our Volunteers-in-Parks Program. Come alone or bring friends, family, or coworkers. We are working together to build a community of park stewards.
The volunteer program is co-managed by the National Park Service and the Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park. Depending on the volunteer position, volunteers will work with staff from the National Park Service, the Conservancy, or Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. Volunteers help at visitor centers, on trails, on the train, at farmers' markets, in offices, and at programs.
Trail Maintenance
Learn about the different ways to get involved with building and maintaining park trails.
Group Volunteering
Find out how to make a difference in the park alongside your family, friends, co-workers, or classmates.
Drop-in Opportunities
Drop-ins are a great opportunity to work with a small group of park staff and volunteers for an hour or two in the national park.

Days of Service are large-scale events that bring people together to make a positive impact on the national park.

 The National Park Service congratulates the regional recipients of the 2023 Excellence in Volunteerism Awards. These nominees embody the values of service, engagement, and stewardship fundamental to our national parks.  The National Park Service is pleased to congratulate the recipients of the 2022 George and Helen Hartzog Awards for Outstanding Volunteer Service.  Celebrate 50 years of the NPS Volunteer-in-Parks Program, and learn about the contributions of the volunteer recipients of the 2019 George and Helen Hartzog Awards for Outstanding Volunteer Service, for work performed in fiscal year 2019.
