Notes: He was light skinned with a scar on his tonsure. He first professed in Burgos, Spain. He first took the Franciscan habit in 1752 in Logroño, Rioja, Spain. After 17 years in the order, 8 of which he was Master of Novices, he volunteered from Pamplona, Navarra, Spain, for the over seas missions. He was 35 at the time. In 1771 he replaced Father Reyes at Cucurpe. In 1776, with the Querétarans exit from Pimeria Baja, he went to San Ignacio with Father Zuñiga. There he served as back-up priest until 1780, when he came to Tumacácori. He served there for fifteen years until he died at three o'clock in the afternoon on 10 October 1795. Upon his death he was buried in the Jesuit church at Tumacácori on 11 October 1795. His body was exhumed and reburied in the new Franciscan church on 13 December 1822. His body was once again exhumed and reburied in the church at San Xavier del Bac on 21 February 1935. Fray Gutierrez recorded the following at his burial:
"In the year of Our Lord 1795, on October 10, Fr. Balthazar Carrillo, a professed religious of Our Father San Francisco in the Province of Burgos, in union and communion with Our Holy Mother Church, returned his soul to God in this Mission about three o'clock in the afternoon of the said day. He was a son of the College of Santa Cruz de Querétaro and the actual minister of this mission of San Joseph de Tumacácori. He was a native of the town of Fitero in Navarra. He took his vows in the city of Logroño in the Province of Rioja. He confessed to me the morning of the same day and that afternoon before he died, the Extreme Unction was administered. He did not receive the Viaticum because there was not time. His body was buried on October 11 in the church of this mission, in the middle, beneath the steps of the main altar, and for this truth I signed on the said day, month, and year as above."
Padre Líberos recorded the following at his reburial:
"In the year of Our Lord 1822, on December 13, I, Fr. Ramón Líberos, Minister of this Mission of Señor San José de Tumacácori moved the bodies of the dead Fathers Fr. Balthasar Carrillo and Fr. Narciso Gutierrez from the old church to the new. I buried them in the sanctuary on the Gospel side facing the altar. For this truth, I sign as above."
