Treatments Two types of fire surrogate treatments (brush mastication and hand thinning) and two seasonal prescribed burns (spring and fall) were tested in this research project. These research units were designed to represent typical treatments occurring within the park, and treatment objectives were developed based on the goals outlined in Whiskeytown’s Fire Management Plan.
Data Collection In order to fully evaluate these treatments, fire behavior and effects data was collected before, during, and after the prescribed burns. Data on vegetation response to the six experimental treatments was collected over a three year period following each initial treatment. |
