Phased Reopening - Waco Mammoth National Monument is beginning to increase access to the park

Following guidance from the White House, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and state and local public health authorities, Waco Mammoth National Monument is increasing access. The National Park Service (NPS) is working servicewide with federal, state, and local public health authorities to closely monitor the COVID-19 pandemic and is using a phased approach to increase access on a park-by-park basis.

Beginning August 12th, Waco Mammoth National Monument will reopen access to:

  • The Dig Shelter at limited capacity, reservations are not required

In addition, the following spaces continue to be available:

  • Trails
  • Picnic Area
  • Restrooms at limited capacity
  • Outside bookstore

Details and updates on park operations will continue to be posted on our website and social media channels. Updates about NPS operations will be posted on www.nps.gov/coronavirus.

 

Summer Conditions

Summer in Texas can be hot. June, July, and August temperatures can reach well over 100 degrees. Drink plenty of water, wear a hat and sunscreen, and take it easy.
