CHEYENNE, Oklahoma: On Friday, November 27, at 2:00 pm, Washita staff will commemorate the 152nd year after the Battle of the Washita with a wreath laying ceremony. Everyone is invited to come to the Overlook to honor those who lost their lives as a result of the attack that cold November morning.

We all know the basic story; Lt. Col. George Armstrong Custer and the 7th US Cavalry swept down upon the unsuspecting village of Cheyenne Peace Chief Black Kettle. But when was the last time you watched the film, perused the museum, talked to a Park Ranger, or walked the trail down to the Washita River? On Friday, November 27, join us and #OptOutside on Black Friday and then take a stroll along the park’s trail. Or visit the park store afterwards and pick out a book as a renewed interest in history. We welcome you to your park.
