Getting Around

Bus

Several bus companies service Scranton from a central downtown bus terminal known as the Lackawanna County Intermodal Transportation Center. This terminal is located on Lackawanna Avenue adjacent to the Park's main entrance at Cliff Street.

NOTE: while there is seasonal park access via the walkway from the "Marketplace at Steamtown," this walkway is not the property of the National Park Service. There is also pedestrian access by walking along Cliff Street under the railroad bridge and up the park entrance road; this route does not have sidewalks, so extreme care must be taken. Cabs are available for hire at the Intermodal Transportation Center and may be your best and safest option.

COLTS (County of Lackawanna Transit System) provides local bus service throughout Scranton and Lackawanna County. Call (570) 346-2061 for schedules and information.

Plane

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) at Avoca serves the greater Pocono Northeast. The airport is serviced by major auto rental agencies, and limo and taxi services. Check with your hotel directly to learn if they offer free ground transportation to/from the park during your stay.

While the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport is the closest to Steamtown, it does not serve all airlines. Alternate flight options could be considered:

  • Lehigh Valley International Airport (74 miles, approx. 1 hr 20 minutes)
  • Newark Liberty International Airport (118 miles, approx. 2 hrs)
  • Harrisburg International Airport (128 miles, approx. 2 hrs 15 minutes)
  • Philadelphia International Airport (133 miles, approx. 2 hrs 15 minutes)

Please note that rail passenger service is not available in, to, or from Northeastern Pennsylvania at this time.
