Salem Maritime National Historic Site often has construction and restoration projects happening at the park. These projects help improve the experience for visitors and preserve the unique resources in Salem. To learn about ongoing projects at the park, check the project listings below. 
Friendship of Salem Repair WorkFriendship of Salem is undergoing work to replace the deck and significant portions of the transom, bulwarks and associated framing. This project started in the fall of 2022, with work anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2025.The work is currently being performed in Gloucester, Massachusetts and was funded through the National Park Service’s Recreation Fee Program. Wharf Stabilization and Repair ProjectThe wharf stabilization and repair project will make repairs necessary to stabilize Derby and Central wharves and provide additional protection against future erosion. Work on this project is scheduled to begin on May 28th, 2024 along the east side bulkhead of Derby Wharf and will continue throughout the summer and early fall. The project is anticipated to be completed by winter 2024.The wharf stabilization and repair project is being funded by the National Park Service. Derby Wharf, built in 1762, and Central Wharf, constructed in 1790, are on the National Register of Historic Places and are National Historic Landmarks. NPS Salem Armory Regional Visitor Center Roof Repairs and Masonry RestorationWork is underway to repair and replace parts of the Salem Armory Regional Visitor Center roof and addess masonry needs on the historic brick building. Contractors will be working onsite during between 8 am and 5 pm on work days to complete these needed restoration projects.
