Volunteer Projects
Big Tree Project: The main objective of this project is to partner with park staff to re-survey known champion trees and search for new occurrences. This effort will combine new GIS/GPS technology with traditional field work.
Stream Assessment & Monitoring: The goals for this program are to encourage park staff, volunteer citizen scientists, and others to assess the physical and/or biological health of freshwater stream systems in South Carolina. This evaluation does not require previous experience or expensive equipment. The two goals for this program are to 1) increase public awareness of and community engagement and citizen science capacity in local watershed management; and 2) provide reference data to help identify that may need protection, restoration or further assessment.
Congaree Citizen Science Butterfly Program: This citizen science program trains and encourages volunteers to observe and submit butterfly data to the North American Butterfly Association (NABA). Data from across the country is compiled to determine specific species ranges and look for changes over time.
Great Backyard Bird Count Citizen Science Program: This citizen science program trains and encourages volunteers to observe and submit bird data to the Great Backyard Bird Count (GBBC). Data from across the country is compiled to determine specific species ranges and look for changes over time.

Changes in our environment are difficult to see and understand because they happen gradually. Chronolog solves this problem by connecting communities with land stewards to create crowd-sourced time lapses of important natural resources. Visit our two Chronolog stations and assist Congaree NP by submitting your photo using the instructions provided at the station!Last updated: September 18, 2024
