Visiting the Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial in Washington State

Paper cranes left by visitors become part of the memorial's purpose to honor the exiled Bainbridge Islanders and their friends and neighbors who stood by them and welcomed them home. The memorial is a place of healing and learning.

The Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial in Washington State is a non-fee park, and is accessible via a short ferry ride from Seattle.

The memorial is located at Pritchard Park - 4192 Eagle Harbor Drive, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.

Hours
The park is open year round during daylight hours. The memorial is staffed by a Park Ranger each weekend during the summer months.

Directions
From the Winslow Ferry Terminal
  • After leaving the ferry, make sure you are in the left lane and at the traffic signal, turn left onto Winslow Way. Go 0.3 mi.
  • At the stop sign, turn right onto Madison Ave. Go 0.3 mi.
  • At the stop sign, take a left turn onto Wyatt Way. Go 0.9 mi.
  • After Wyatt Way curves left around Eagle Harbor, get into the left turn lane and turn left towards “Eagledale” onto Eagle Harbor Drive. Go 1.8 mi.
  • Prior to reaching Taylor Avenue, you will first pass New Sweden Ave and then Ward Ave.
  • For the bus turn-around and drop-off entrance, turn left at Taylor Avenue.
  • For the main parking lot, proceed one block further along Eagle Harbor Drive and take the next left. Follow the road down the hill and to the left.
From the north end of Bainbridge Island
  • Continue southbound on Highway 305 and take a right onto Sportsman Club Road (there is a light at this intersection.)
  • Continue on Sportsman Club Road. Go 1.6 mi.
  • At the end of the road turn left onto Finch Road. Go 0.2 mi.
  • At the stop sign turn right onto Wyatt Way. Go 0.1 mi.
  • After Wyatt Way curves left around Eagle Harbor, get into the left turn lane and turn left towards “Eagledale” onto Eagle Harbor Drive. Go 1.8 mi.
  • Prior to reaching Taylor Avenue, you will first pass New Sweden Ave and then Ward Ave.
  • For the bus turn-around and drop-off entrance, turn left at Taylor Avenue.

Via public transit
  • The Memorial is accessible via Kitsap Transit bus #99. This bus runs from the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal.
  • Get off at the Eagle Harbor at New Sweden stop and head east on Eagle Harbor Drive toward New Sweden Road.
