Permanent, career-seasonal full-time. Employees can be converted to the competitive service after two years of satisfactory service in the same appointment, and upon meeting all regulatory requirements. Competitive service enables employees to compete for other career opportunities through announcements that are open to current permanent career or career conditional Federal employees.
This position has a career seasonal work schedule that provides for at least 26 weeks of full-time work, and up to 26 weeks of non-duty/non-pay time, per year. The work season is expected to be approximately early February through mid-December. It is possible that work time can be extended depending on budget, workload, weather, or for other reasons. When your services are not required, you will be placed in non-pay, non-duty status. You will have the option to continue your health coverage while in non-pay.

DUTIES: You will work as a Training Specialist, GS-1712-09 at Lake Clark National Park and Preserve. Duties include but are not limited to the following:
Prepares and presents professional curriculum-based education materials and programs, including education materials for various educational levels and for a variety of audiences, with a significant focus on youth.
Uses curricular templates and aligns programs with professional education standards.
Ensures that programs and materials meet the special needs and interests of community and audience.
Develops, delivers, and evaluates education programs and materials that address a variety of 2 natural and cultural resources in the disciplines of natural science, cultural science, and history through a Traditional Ecological Knowledge lens.
Utilize knowledge of natural and cultural history, for understanding, developing, and presenting education programs and materials.
Serves as lead instructor with student groups on-site, in classrooms, and outdoor education experiences.
Manages the organization and storage of educational assets, both physical and electronic, as well as simple statical databases.
Collaborates with partners and stakeholders, including by not limited to colleagues, park partners, tribes, and teachers and administrators, to facilitate productive, cooperative activities.
Lead education programs ranging in length from one hour to multi-day experiences in adherence with established curriculum and partner organizations.
Designs, develops, and performs layout and design of visuals for high-quality media products such as youth activities, website content, and social media content.
Uses writing to effectively communicate with teachers and school administrators, NPS personnel from multiple work groups, tribes, partners, stakeholders, and the public, and for producing clear and organized written reports, grant proposals, documents, instructional materials, etc.
Presents effective educational programs, using interactive and appealing to multiple learning styles.
Acts as lead for the Port Alsworth Visitor Center which involves leading youth-based programming, mentoring interns, and volunteers, and contributing to the park’s non-personal services (website, social media, photo library, etc.)
May occasionally operate a small, motorized boat and carry a non-law enforcement shotgun for safety from wildlife in the backcountry. Training will be provided by the park as needed.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This work may require long periods of standing, walking, and speaking. There will be travel by vehicle, aircraft, or boat. Work will be with constantly changing school groups and may be physically and intellectually demanding.
WORK CONDITIONS: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and is subject to everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions.

You may be required to travel up to two nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
Government housing is not available.
You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive negative drug test results prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
You will be required to operate a government motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver’s license is required. After selection, you may be required to submit a GSA Form 3607 and driving record at your own expense.
You must obtain and maintain a current Department of Interior Motorboat Operator Certification Course (DOI-MOCC) certificate. The DOI-MOCC certificate is not needed at time of hire but must be obtained within the first year of employment. Training course is provided by park for applicant to complete following start of employment.
You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
