The Jimmy Carter National Historical Park, situated in Plains, Georgia, is a tribute to the legacy and history of Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States. This small, rural community holds special significance as the hometown of Jimmy Carter, and the park encompasses several significant locations associated with his life. These include Plains High School, where Carter attended and graduated, the campaign headquarters used during his 1976 presidential campaign, and the boyhood home and farm where Jimmy Carter spent his formative years.
Hours of OperationThe park grounds and trails are open daily except New Years Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. Hours change seasonally. See Operating Hours & Seasons below for detailed information. 300 North Bond Street Plains, GA 31780 In Americus take US 280W/ W Forsyth St. until it becomes US-19 S/US-280 W/S Martin Luther King Blvd. Turn left and go .08 mile. Turn right onto US-280 W and travel 8.9 miles. Turn right onto North Bond Street/ Hwy 45 North. Plains High School Visitor Center and Museum will be on the right side of the road 500 feet from the intersection. When visiting Southwest Georgia during the summer, expect hot and humid weather with the potential for thunderstorms. Check the local forecast before planning any outdoor activities in the region and be prepared with appropriate clothing, sun protection, and hydration to ensure a comfortable and safe visit. Plains High School Visitor Center and MuseumPlains High School is the main visitor center for the Jimmy Carter National Historical Park. The building has the parks orientation film, visitor services desk, exhibits, bookstore, and passport stamp location. Public WiFi is available.
Free Wifi is available in the lobby of Plains High School, in the lobby of the Plains Depot, and the porch area of the comfort station at the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm. Cellular service in Plains and the surrounding areas can be spotty. Visitors with ATT, T-Mobile, and Sprint have experienced connectivity issues on a regular basis. Visitors with Verizon seem to have the fewest reported problems. |
