Weather

When visiting Southwest Georgia during the summer, expect hot and humid weather with the potential for thunderstorms. Check the local forecast before planning any outdoor activities in the region and be prepared with appropriate clothing, sun protection, and hydration to ensure a comfortable and safe visit.

Spring and Fall

Both spring and fall seasons offer pleasant weather. Temperatures can vary with an average high of 75°F and a low of 36°F (24°C to 2°C). Spring is characterized by the potential for rain, especially in April. In the fall, the weather is typically sunny and dry, with September and October being the driest months.

Summer

Summers are hot and humid with afternoon temperatures that reach on average 90°F (32°C). Overnight lows fall to near 68°F (20°C). Summer thunderstorms are common and contribute to the humidity, providing 4.5 inches to 5.5 inches (11 to 14 cm) of rain during the summer months.

Winter

Winter lasts from December to March, and is generally mild. Daytime highs range from approximately 55°F to 35°F (13°C to 2°C). The potential for snow and ice increases in the northern parts of the state.

Forecasts

The weather in Georgia can change quickly and can deviate considerably from the forecast, so prepare for all conditions when planning your adventure.

Georgia is one of the leading states in incidents of tornadoes. Southwestern and northern sections of the state have historically reported the largest amount of tornadoes. The areas closest to the Florida border report F0 and F1 tornadoes associated with summer thunderstorms. However, tornadoes of F3 intensity or greater within Georgia are uncommon, with three events reported on average each year.
