Length: 2.6 mile, one-way This trail is great to enjoy as a loop with the Appalachian National Scenic Trail. From the Mohican Outdoor Center, a short trail connects to the main Rattlesnake Swamp Trail. A left turn onto the main trail leads by Catfish Pond, where evidence of beaver activity is abundant. As the trail continues, numerous small stream crossings and the Rattlesnake Swamp can make this trail very wet. This swampy environment provides a plethora of interesting plant life and an interesting contrast to the dry rocky environment seen elsewhere along Kittatinny Ridge. The trail terminates at the Appalachian Trail; turn right to loop back to the Mohican Outdoor Center. This section of the Appalachian Trail provides great views into the valley below. The Catfish Fire Tower is a popular spot to have a picnic while enjoying the view. After 1.4 miles on the Appalachian Trail, the other end of Rattlesnake Swamp Trail intersects the trail. Turn right for the half-mile hike back to the Mohican Outdoor Center. Despite the name, rattlesnake encounters are no more likely than along the Kittatinny Ridge. Other Information: restrooms are located at Mohican Outdoor Center |
